Day 1:

Kasese (L,D)

After breakfast at your place of stay in Kampala you will be picked up from your hotel and depart for Kasese, having lunch in Fort portal before heading for Kasese. It is a 7-8 hour drive passing through the impressive rural landscapes of Uganda with lush green cover. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 2:

Nyabitaba [B, L, D]

Morning, transfer to Nyakalengija for weighing and porter allocation before starting the climb of about 5 hours to the first hut. Picnic lunches will be served this day before climbing through the moss to the Nyabitaba Hut [2650 m] Overnight Nyabitaba Hut

Day 3:

Hike from Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut at 3.414 m [B, L, D]

Start early after breakfast and climb through the Kurt Shafer Bridge that crosses the Mobuku River Confluence. This 5 hour hike takes you through the bamboo, Lobelia and heath finally ending at John Matte Hut [3350 m] Overnight John Matte Hut

Day 4:

Hike from John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut at 3.977 m [B, L, D]

The climb this day gets boggy as you hike through Giant heather, Lobelias and groundsel through the Cooking Pot to the overnight hut at Bujuku [3977 m]. The average hiking time for this section is 4.5 - 5hours. Overnight at Bujuku Hut

Day 5:

Hike from Bujuku to Elena Hut [B, L, D]

Breakfast at leisure and proceed on a muddy hike through steep cliffs. This is a section of Giant Groundsels and Lobelias that characterized the higher section of the Mountain. Ascend further to Elena Hut which acts as a base for the final assent of the highest peak of the Rwenzori Mountains “The Margherita”. Meals and overnight at Elena Hut [4541 m] Overnight Elena Hut

Day 6:

Summit the Margarita Peak and descend to Lake Kitandara hut [B, L, D]

Starting before sunrise, we walk through the snow to Margherita peak (5109m). This last section requires mountaineering equipment including the ice axe, crampons and rope. If whether conditions are favorable, sunset would find you at the peak where you would take pictures. From here, descend to the Kitandara Lakes [4023 m] Overnight Kitandara Hut

Day 7:

Hike from Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut at 3.261 m [B, L, D]

The descent gets you through beautiful views of the Congo and the alpine moss. The trail then leads through the Bujongolo and Kabamba rock shelters. This trip takes an average of 6 hours to Guy Yeoman Hut is [3260 m] Overnight at Guy Yeoman Hut.

Day 8:

Descend from Guy Yeoman Hut back to Nyakalengija. [B, L, D]

The descent of about 8 hours starts to Nyakalengija trailhead [1600 m] Overnight at hotel in Nyakalengija.

Day 9:

Kampala/Entebbe [B, L]

After breakfast, hop on the transfer vehicle and head back to Kampala (around 7-8 hours). Free day and transfer to the airport (try to book flights later in the day).
